Description

The training introduces Linux command line interface with zero prior knowledge. 

We start at cdpwd and ls commands and then introduce more commands.

Level

Target audience

Training intended for people who never used Linux systems.

Agenda

  1. Directory tree - moving through the directory tree; cd, pwd, ls;
  2. Managing directories - creating, deleting, copying, and moving directories and files; mkdir, cp, mv, rm, touch;
  3. Reading files - viewing, searching through files and manipulating outputs; cat, grep, head, tail, mc -v, echo, wc, sort, column;

No recommended trainings before this one.

No account required.

Participants' computers should be equipped with software that allows SSH connections. On Windows, it is recommended to use Windows Terminal after checking if OpenSSH is installed. We advise against using Putty.

At 10:00 am on 23rd February 2026, a Dry-run will be held. Participants are invited to come to learn how to log in to Ares supercomputer before the training and resolve any problems with the Training Team.
